To make Eatonville an internationally recognized cultural tourism destination for the arts and culture throughout the African Diaspora, with special emphasis on the multi-disciplines as represented by the life and work of Zora Neale Hurston
To enhance the resources of Eatonville, Florida, popularly known as “the oldest incorporated African-American municipality in the United States” and the hometown of writer, folklorist, and anthropologist Zora Neale Hurston; to educate the public about Eatonville’s historic significance; and to use the community’s heritage and cultural vibrancy for its economic development
About Gramond McPherson
In 2017, Gramond McPherson was a second-year master’s student in the Department of History at the University of Central Florida. He graduated from Oakwood University in Huntsville, Alabama with a bachelor’s degree in history in 2014. He concentrates on black urban history in the United States, particularly in the South. His work focuses on studying minority communities and their resistance to various infrastructural changes that threaten their community. He ultimately aspires to obtain his Ph.D. degree and teach American history at the university level.
