What needs to take place

[A] Master planning process engaged in by the community; one that embraces a 100-year time frame/ a multi-generational approach, allowing citizens to understand the land as a “Community Inheritance” to be used as an investment for the community’s descendants.

Process to be facilitated by “Some of the best minds/experts” in the various fields associated with community master planning such that, ultimately, Eatonville’s citizens will be able to identify “the highest and best use of the land.”

[B] Development of a multi-acre Zora Neale Hurston Campus for the Arts, the Humanities, and the Sciences

(Zora Neale Hurston Campus), a mulit-use complex, including high-value commercial enterprises which will feature the several types of facilities necessary to generate a robust tax base. 

Leveraging the award-winning, nationally recognized Zora Neale Hurston Festival of the Arts and Humanities (ZORA! Festival), the Zora Neale Hurston Campus becomes the intellectual and creative hub for a multi-use concept, to include the:

• • Zora Neale Hurston National Museum of Fine Arts (The Hurston) Complex, including presentation spaces and archives; meeting rooms/lecture center spaces;
  • Historic Eatonville Conference Complex, to include facilities able to accommodate 1000-person meeting needs;
  • Excellence Without Excuse (E-WE) Community Computer Arts Lab & Learning Center;
  • “ZORA! Mind Space” — Prestige location for creatives and professionals who want to create and work in an environment which celebrates the wetlands which constitute a significant portion of the Zora Neale Hurston Campus;
  • Housing Village” designed to accommodate artists and scholars who will live in individual, self-contained residences for a fixed period of time while they pursue their work
